Flycatcher Saracenija Saracenia Juthatip in a pot with a diameter of 12 cm.
Saracenia grows in acidic, nutrient-poor soil. All types of Saracenia are insectivorous plants. Insects are attracted to traps by color, scents and nectar. Nectar contains the alkaloid conine, which intoxicates insects. Once they fall into the trap, they cannot get out, because its inner surface is very smooth and covered with downward-sloping bristles. The liquid at the bottom of the trap contains enzymes that break down the soft parts of the insect's body and the plant absorbs the necessary nutrients.
